ABOUT IIM A PGPX
The MBA-PGPX, or Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives, is one of the best residential, full-time programs offered over a year-long period in the world. The PGPX program, thoughtfully created by the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad for brilliant, motivated, and aspirational executives with significant professional experience, draws outstanding candidates from a range of businesses, cultures, and regions.
For the previous five years, up to and including 2022, the PGPX program has been ranked No. 1 globally in the Financial Times Career Progression category. IIM Ahmedabad was the country’s top “Best Management Institute” in the “Indian Ranking 2021,” which was produced by the MHRD’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
THE 1 YEAR MBA PROGRAM
For executives with significant work experience, MBA-PGPX is a one-year, full-time residential program leading to an MBA degree.
The one-year MBA tuition at IIM Ahmedabad is Rs. 30 lakh. It excludes personal expenditures.
The PGPX fee is typically bundled or packed. Tuition, books, and course materials are all included. Additionally, fees for lodging, meals (if staying in SSH), and other services like the library, computing, network upgrades, etc. But the price of the International Immersion Program is not included in this (IIP).
CLASS PROFILE
The MBA cohort typically represents a wide array of industries and professional backgrounds, providing a great learning experience.
The class profile of IIMA has 140 students. The industry experience of students, before joining is also diverse, ranging from consulting, hi-tech, finance & marketing.
The average work experience for the full-time MBA is 8.6 years which ensures that students contribute richly to classroom learning by bringing forward their varied industry experience.
The average GMAT score for the incoming class is 713. Females in the class were about 28%.
COURSE CURRICULUM SUMMARY
This programme follows a six-segment course structure, with each segment seamlessly joined to the next. The segments are :
(i) Induction – Spanning two and a half days, this introduces students to the facilities, co-curricular activities, and extracurricular events while also introducing them to the program’s curriculum and the IIMA method of instruction. While adjusting to the PGPX and the future, it also aids the learner in understanding who they are.
(ii) Building Blocks – The students receive a thorough foundation in management principles during the core portion. It enhances and crystallises their fundamental conceptual and analytical understanding, putting them in a managerially effective position.
(iii) Preparing for Top Management – The PGPX’s distinguishing feature, this part, helps students further hone their abilities so they can comprehend and visualise the dynamics of complicated management problems. Additionally, it equips individuals with the skills necessary to lead with vision, effect change, and hold high-level positions.
(iv) International Immersion – In a foreign country, students spend two intense weeks engaged in studies. With the help of this lesson, students will gain knowledge of macro-level dynamics and an unfamiliar economic setting in a foreign nation.
(v) Electives – A comprehensive selection of optional courses, including those in marketing, finance, supply chain management, strategic management, and many industry-specific fields, are available to students. While electives are dependent on student interest and faculty availability, this gives students the option to choose electives in fields in which they are knowledgeable and passionate, allowing each student’s experience to be distinctive and tailored to his or her preferred growth path. It is also an opportunity to explore new areas of learning and a chance to reflect on and leverage experience
Students have the option of choosing an Individual Research Project as one of their “electives” (IRP). Participants in PGPX carry out the project under the guidance of a faculty adviser. The outcome is a polished written product that might be any of the following:
• A case with analysis
• An Industry Note
• A paper on “Bridging the Divide” (focusing on a socio-economic divide affecting the world)
• A business plan for an entrepreneur
(vi) Capstone – This part serves as the program’s capstone and offers a chance to synthesise knowledge from the whole curriculum, reflect on one’s own experience as an executive, and comprehend what it means to operate in big, diverse teams under pressure.
PLACEMENT STATISTICS
Each year, IIMA A achieves high employment rates above 95 % of each MBA class. The mean salary for the outgoing class of 2021-2022 was INR 32 lakhs.

Application process – The selection process for the PGPX 2023-24 batch is a two-stage process. In the first stage, the candidates are shortlisted for the Personal Interview from among the candidates who have applied to the program and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the program.
The short-listed candidates are expected to submit essays on specific topics, within the stipulated time period. In the second and final stage of the selection process, the short-listed candidates are interviewed by a panel of IIMA faculty members. The panel evaluates the candidate on several parameters (e.g. professional background, quality of experience, progression in career, academic preparedness, leadership potential, accomplishment, and interpersonal skills) and assesses the candidate’s fitment for the program.
